Description

This is a programme of research to determine the effectiveness of different educational strategies on the attitudes of medical students to older people, and the impact on their future career choices.
The overarching aims of the study is to use a mixed-methods approach to compare outcomes between 2 cohorts of 4th year medical students: those undertaking the MB16 curriculum, and those on the MB21 programme.
The objectives are to compare the following short- and long-term outcomes between the 2 cohorts:
1.Attitudes towards older people
2.Career intentions and attitudes towards a career in geriatric medicine
3.Empathy
4.Confidence for work as an F1 doctor
5.Undergraduate examination results
6.Progression into speciality training
