Abstract
This study aims to investigate the association between structural environment and
conceptual environment and juvenile delinquency. The subjects of this study include
2,313 3rd year senior high school students. The dependent variable of this study is
juvenile delinquency while the independent variables are neighbourhood environment,
and the mediation effects of delinquent friends. The implications derived from the
results are as follows: First, this study applied non domestic theories, which focused
on the relationship between neighbourhood and juvenile delinquency, to a domestic
Korean context. Therefore this study provides basic information for future researchers
who are interested in this area of study. Secondly, the results of this study suggest
that it may be important to approach juvenile delinquency not only on a micro
level, which considers individual or family effects, but also on a macro level, with
consideration given to neighbourhood effects.
