Abstract
The integration of a vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) and a photodiode with two microstrip antennas results in low-cost wireless-optical transmitter and receiver modules and the initial microwave-link results are shown. The VCSEL antenna is used as part of a fully bidirectional wireless-optical link and data are successfully transferred between two wireless-enabled laptops.
