Bibliographical noteThis chapter was written by me alone. It is co-authored because the project it discusses was a joint project between myself and Nic Earle, whose expertise is in VR. Nic built the environment and programmed the characters discussed in the chapter and I provided the historical source material. We designed the activities in teh mdoel together and ran evaluations and observations jointly. In writing this chapter, I drew on the outcomes of those evaluations and placed them in a theoretical and disciplinary context.
