Abstract
This chapter presents an analysis of the relationship between urbanization
and settlement patterns of the African population in the area under the
administration of the Greater Johannesburg Metropolitan Council, focusing
on population growth in Johannesburg, the extent of in-migration and
circular migration, and the way in which housing policy has shaped the relationship between urbanization and access to different kinds of accommodation.
