Abstract

Over a period of four years, Berlin’s natural history museum hosted an international programme called “Art/Nature. Artistic Interventions at the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin.” This project provided an experimental space for examining the interplay between contemporary art, museum practices, and natural history. Artists working in the fields of visual arts, sound art and literature explored the museum, its collections and its exhibitions. In the process they developed works that interpret the natural history museum from an artistic perspective and contribute to the debate on its social significance in the 21st century.
