Abstract

The article draws on audience memories of cinema-going in Italy in the 1950s (based on the AHRC-funded project 'In Search of Italian Cinema Audiences 1945-60' (2013-16)). It discusses how audience memories engage with broader questions of Italian national history, how the nation was viewed, and the transition from rural to urban living that characterised the post-war period in Italy.
