Abstract
Commissioned by the Advice Services Transition Fund, I conducted an analysis of the social welfare law (SWL) infrastructure in North Somerset. Using an existing weighted model from MBARC, SWL advice need was calculated from census and ward data. The number of FTE SWL advice workers and their prospective salaries was used to create a sum total of the amount of investment needed to meet this need. Against this, the current SWL provision was calculated by taking into account all provision in SWL providers and monetising voluntary contributions. A shortfall of approximately £370,000 per annum was found. This report was presented to the North Somerset Council Executive Management and to the Cabinet Office. It was also featured in local press.
