"Aquestes arrels que queden sempre et criden una mica": actituds i ideologies envers la llengua portuguesa a Andorra

Resum:
El català és l’única llengua oficial d’Andorra, però coexisteix amb les llengües dominants dels dos països veïns, és a dir, el francès i el castellà. Segons estadístiques del 2021, poc més de la meitat dels residents d’Andorra són persones migrades, i la comunitat portuguesa representa aproximadament un 11 % de la població total del país. Per tant, la llengua portuguesa també hi és present. Quines són les actituds i les ideologies predominants envers la llengua portu-guesa a Andorra? Què pensen els membres de la comunitat portuguesa de la posició de la seva llengua dins la situació de multilingüisme tan complexa que hi ha al país? I com valoren la llengua portuguesa els residents d’Andorra que no tenen un origen portuguès? En aquest article, per mitjà de mètodes quantitatius i qualitatius, estudiem les actituds i les ideologies envers la llengua portuguesa a Andorra. Primerament, fem una anàlisi quantitativa a partir d’un qüestionari sobre les actituds lingüístiques, mitjançant un model de regressió lineal múl-tiple, per tal d’establir correlacions entre valoracions del portuguès i un seguit de variables socials independents. Els resultats mostren valoracions globalment negatives envers la llen-gua portuguesa per part de residents andorrans que no són d’origen portuguès. Això, al seu torn, serveix de punt de partida per a una anàlisi glotopolítica de dades qualitatives obtingu-des d’entrevistes semidirigides, que posa de manifest la importància del portuguès en els àm-bits educatiu i familiar.

Abstract:
Catalan is the sole official language in Andorra but it co-exists with the dominant languages of the country’s two larger neighbours, i.e. French and Spanish. According to statistics for 2021, just over half of Andorra’s residents are migrants, with the Portuguese community accounting for around 11% of the total population. Consequently, the Portuguese language is also present there. What are the prevalent language attitudes and ideologies regarding Portuguese in Andorra? What do members of the Portuguese community think about the position of their native language within the complex societal multilingualism situation in the country? And how is Portuguese considered by those from outside this migrant community? This study combines quantitative and qualitative approaches to the study of language attitudes and ideologies. Firstly, linear regression modelling is used to analyse the results of a language attitudes questionnaire in order to establish correlations between evaluations of the Portuguese language and a series of independent social variables. These findings reveal generally low evaluations of Portuguese by Andorran residents who are not of Portuguese origin. This, in turn, provides a starting point for a glottopolitical analysis of qualitative semi-structured interview data, which highlights the importance of Portuguese in the educational and family spheres
