Abstract

Voluntary codes of practice can assist organizations with ethical big data analysis, as a complement to current law and a way of de-risking future law. This chapter gives suggestions for such a code of practice. These include technical assistance for tracking data restrictions and obligations; separation of administration and processing roles for big data analysis; internal audits of teams' big data practices, for example by joint big data ethics committees; and procedures for preventing very harmful uses.
