Binding Men considers five late nineteenth century cases which seek to bind men - in the sense of limiting, proscribing, condemning and reigning in their behaviour. These are also cases which bind or have bound future courts through the English system of precedent which means that authoritative pronouncements of judges are in themselves law and should, therefore, be followed in subsequent legal proceedings. It utilizes and develops existing scholarship on both the cases and masculinities.
