    Abstract

This presentation examines the current situation of Deaf people in the UK in regard to their representation, exclusion, the amount that UK society provides for support and development for the Deaf community. From this we can conclude that the BSL is not receiving enough attention or support but should this be the responsibility of hearing society or the Deaf community itself? In the second part, the presentation considers what the Deaf community can take pride in and how this might be presented to society as a whole. If BSL is to be on the move, then it is in the hands of Deaf people.
