Abstract

This work demonstrates the performance of transmission lines on FR408 for millimeter-wave applications. These lines can be used as interconnects to integrate a CMOS IC with an antenna fabricated on FR408 for an integrated low-cost system-in-package solution. Ansoft HFSS simulation results for 50 ohm microstrip and coplanar waveguide lines show a return loss of 20 dB and an insertion loss of 0.2 dB/mm and 0.5 dB/mm, respectively, at 100 GHz. Measured insertion loss up to 67 GHz indicates that CPW lines compare well with simulation while microstrip designs are frequency dependent given the type of measurement transition utilized.
