Abstract
A dual band-notched two-element UWB-MIMO step slot antenna with a very compact size of 23¡Á21¡Á0.8 mm3 is presented. By etching two rectangular slots from the middle of the ground plane, the impedance matching of the antenna in 3-4 GHz and isolation of two ports are considerably improved. With the implementation of three pairs of open-ended quarter-wavelength split slots near two radiating slots, two effective frequency notches are created at C-band and WLAN frequency band respectively in addition to a further reduction of mutual coupling at frequencies ¡Ü 7 GHz. The antenna has an operating band of 3.07-11.09 GHz with two sharply-notched bands of 3.71-4.38 GHz and 5.16-5.90 GHz, along with a low mutual coupling less than -18 dB over the entire UWB range. With ECC ¡Ü 0.004 and good pattern diversity, this antenna is a suitable candidate for UWB systems working with severe multipath fading and in-band interference.
