Abstract

Following the 1st and 2nd workshops on creep behaviour of soft soils (CREBS 1 and 2), Hans Petter Jostad of the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute invited various researchers to participate in a comparison of methods for calculation of long term settlements of soft clay focused on a hypothetical case prediction exercise (NGI, 2007). For given soft soil profiles, researchers were asked to predict settlement behaviour following application of surface loading. The results were presented and discussed at the 3rd CREBS workshop held at Chalmers University in June 2009. This report contains the results of the predictions undertaken at Bristol University using the in-house spreadsheet-based software BRISCON.
