Abstract

This introductory chapter to the collected volume 'Leisure and everyday life with dementia' introduces the key themes and concepts from the book. Its authors emphasise the role played by leisure in enhancing our lives. A life enhanced is open to possibility, to purpose and to fun. It is also a life in which, through our own actions and in relationship with others, we find ways to positively change our lives and those of other people. We argue that the fact that these possibilities are not equally open to people living with dementia is an injustice. In this book we seek to raise awareness of the role and meaning of leisure in the lives of people living with dementia, and to explore ways in which to tackle the injustice.
