Abstract
This paper presents numerical studies of contrast-enhanced breast cancer detection using dynamic microwave-radar imaging system. Using three-dimensional heterogeneous breast models, we present a comprehensive feasibility study based on full-wave electromagnetic simulations. Computational results reveal that even a 1% change in the average electrical properties of cancerous tissues due to the uptake of the contrast agent is sufficient to be detected using the microwave radar system. As the contrast agent we consider gold nanoparticles. Our results suggest that nanoparticles could provide detectable changes in clinically relevant concentrations
