Abstract
Lauren Berlant reminds us that ‘just because we are in the room together does not mean that we belong to the room or each other: belonging is a specific genre of affect, history, and political mediation that cannot be presumed and is, indeed, a relation whose evidence and terms are always being contested.’. This paper explores how co-created, community-engaged sited dance works in public spaces might open out possibilities of resistance to a single or fixed understanding of place and how these projects might provide a space to bring our attention to the plurality and multi-layered complexities of contemporary urban experience.
