Abstract
This paper presents the development of a Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) system that facilitates experimental testing of cell balancing circuits by emulating energy storage components. Testing cell balancing circuits with real batteries limits the circuits to be tested under various scenarios as repetitive charging and discharging would deteriorate the life of the batteries. Furthermore, a HIL testing system allows comprehensive evaluations of any cell balancing circuits or control strategy against any cell condition with minimum resources and time.
