“Do sanctions undermine support for incumbents? ‘Economic pain’ and revolutionary identities in rural Nicaragua”

Research output: Contribution to conferenceConference Paper

Abstract

Sanctions often rest on the idea that inflicting ‘economic pain’ will undermine popular support for incumbent administrations. Problems with this contention will be exposed through an ethnographic account of pro-government politics among rural Nicaraguans, whose recent past has been marked by the collapse of the Sandinista revolutionary project and the withdrawal of the state.
