Abstract
This chapter looks at the importance of the context of fragments for an editor. Focusing on texts of Greek lyric poetry (Stesichorus, Pindar, Sappho), it addresses practical issues which the editor must confront – how much of the original context to provide? How to contextualise fragments within the edition? How far to supplement lacunae? – and the importance of such issues for users of the edition.
