Abstract
Two groups of CFRP tendons, C and D, were exposed in distilled water at 20°C and 60 °C to study the diffusion mechanisms and the effect of moisture uptake on the tendon shear modulus. The Group C tendons were uncoated whereas the group D specimens were originally sand coated and post-cured. To determine the shear modulus, torsion tests within the elastic range of loading were conducted and the shear modulus was derived from the torque versus twist plots. The manufacturing process seemed to influence the rate of diffusion and the shear modulus degradation. For both groups of tendons the measured shear modulus decreased due to exposure in water. Group C exhibited the greatest mass uptake levels at saturation and had the highest shear modulus reduction
