Abstract

With increasing demand for high data rate cellular links as smart phones become commonplace, the race has started to define which technologies will constitute the next generation (5G) wireless standard. In this paper, we attempt to identify some emerging technological trends which may influence the make up of the next generation wireless standard. Some of these technologies are already being considered in standards such as 3GPP LTE, while others are still in the development phase.
