Abstract

The chapter discusses violence and killings which are carried out in the name of ‘honour’. It is based on a two-year major piece of research on ‘honour’-based crimes inside Kurdish communities in Iraqi Kurdistan Region and in the UK. It presents a discussion of ‘honour’-based violence, followed briefly by the study aims and methods, with longer sections on our findings and recommendations. Using a gender perspective, it places particular emphasis on the ideas and plans for action on honour-based violence which emerged from the research. The study and this chapter are based on activism and attempts to enable social change for women.
