Forward feeding AGC with extended signal delays

Abstract

A new investigation into means of enhancing the performance of forward feeding AGC systems is described. It is shown that careful equalisation of delay and response amplitude is needed, involving the use of a long (~5 milliseconds) audio time delay. New circuit elements, in particular LSI microcircuits which yield substantial audio time delays, seem to promise greatly improved performance, and this is confirmed experimentally. It is also shown that fully satisfactory AGC performance with AM and SSB systems is now practicable up to 500 MHz carrier frequency
