Abstract

A generation is defined as ‘a group of people or cohorts who share birth years and experiences as they move through time together, influencing and being influenced by a variety of critical factors’ (Kupperschmidt, 2000, p. 66).
Every generation has their unique and common backgrounds and life experiences. Generation Z (Gen Z), also known as ‘children of the Internet’, ‘digital natives’, the ‘media generation’, the ‘.com generation’, ‘IGen’, ‘instant
online’, the ‘homeland generation’ and ‘postmillennials’ (Levickaite, 2010), are people who were born between 1996 and 2010. Gen Zers can be further divided into two groups: those born between 1996 and 2005, and those born
between 2006 and 2010, the youngest segment of this generation. The first group can be described as ‘the first connected kids’, while for the latter, technology is inherent. The common element between these two Gen Z groups is
they are always online and connected via social media apps.
