Abstract

Multiple genetic strategies are available to help improve understanding of diabetic nephropathy. This methods chapter provides an overview of phenotype considerations specific to diabetic nephropathy, biobank essentials, and provides detailed methodology for a common benchtop wet-lab approach (Ion Torrent semiconductor sequencing) including in silico genetic variant identification from next generation sequencing data to identify genetic risk factors for diabetic nephropathy.
