Abstract

Annotated transcription of a petition presented to Cardinal Thomas Wolsey's Court of Chancery c.1516-18 (631 words including annotations). This is preceded by a 4,780-word introduction, discussing its the plaintiff, the petition's date, the case itself and the petitioner's wider disputes and financial entanglements. The light this throws on Hugh Eliot, one of the principal merchants involved in Bristol's exploration voyages of the period 1496-c.1505, is discussed. Total length: 5,517 words.
