In-plane and out-of-plane deformation properties of unidirectional preimpregnated reinforcement

Abstract

It has been shown previously that multiple stacks of cross-plied unidirectional prepreg reinforcement can exhibit similar levels of formability to that shown by woven cloth, and that under some conditions can out-perform woven cloth in this respect. However, little work has been reported on the deformation processes within unidirectional prepreg in a single orientation. The work reported here relates to the in-plane deformation characteristics of unidirectional prepreg in a single orientation and the out-of-plane deformation of single and multiple orientation stacks of unidirectional prepreg.
