Abstract
The Introduction provides an overview of Paul Ginsborg’s life and work, highlighting his special contributions to the history of the Risorgimento and contemporary Italy. It considers his Cambridge periods and his emergence as a public intellectual in Italy following his move to Florence in the 1990s. Particular attention is paid to his activism and his interests in civil society and the family.
