Abstract
Geophysical methods are useful to identify potential sea water intrusion near coastal areas. Therefore, Electrical / Electromagnetic surveys were mapped possible sea water intrusion effect along the Değirmendere River in Trabzon coastal site of Turkey. The study area, located along the Değirmendere River for Slingram method, was planned as 2 profiles which their lengths were 147 m and 82 m from north to south direction. The data were measured by using vertical-dipole mode (VDM) and horizontal-dipole mode (HDM) with EM-34-3 tool according to intervals of transmitter and receiver coils 10 m and 20 m along profiles. Electrical measurements were done the same study area as an one profile,160m, where is far away 200 m from sea with Wenner-Schlumberger, Wenner and Dipole-Dipole arrays by ABEM Terrameter LS tool. Interval of electrodes were chosen 4 m. After the electrical resistivity inversion, the matched result with Slingram method was revealed by Wenner-Schlumberger array. Moreover, the general structure of the subsurface and sea water intrusion have been revelaed by Slingram and Sounding-Profiling methods. The two potential areas of sea water intrusion, with depths of 10 m and 29 m, were estimated along the 2D resistivity profile and the results of the Slingram method.
