Abstract
Jill Harrison works on plant architecture determination as a Professor in the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Bristol. Her BSc in Biology with French at the University of St Andrews was followed by a year as a technician in a mouse genetics lab. She then undertook an MSc in Plant Biodiversity and Taxonomy at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh/University of Edinburgh and a PhD on the genetic basis of shape differences in Cape primroses, completed in 2002. During her postdoctoral research at the University of Oxford she became fascinated by the earlier stages of plant architectural evolution, in particular the origin of shoots and leaves. Her independent research interests at Cambridge and Bristol have remained in plant body plan evolution and development.
