N2 - This paper considers the presence and absence of references to sexually harassing behaviour other than rape, in the surviving documents of the late medieval English common law. It argues that, while the investigation of this area of misconduct in the common law records is far from easy, there are important lessons to be learned from the scattered references which can be found, and from the very fact that they are few and scattered. It considers the way in which this area of concern has been marginalised, effaced, fragmented, in the legal context, and in legal historical study, and recommends renewed efforts to explore the sources which remain to us, with minds open to the possibility that apparently non-sexual complaints may in fact have included a component of sexual misconduct.
