Abstract

The production of a quantum degenerate Bose-Fermi mixture with 87Rb and 40K atoms and the determination of cross-species scattering length were investigated. The observations of the spatial distribution of the gases after time-of-flight expansion confirmed the onset of degeneracy. It was found that the thermal relaxation rate of the 40K cloud depended only on the collision rate with 87Rb atoms. Multiple high-precision measurements including photoassociation and Feshbach spectroscopy were used in the experiment.
