The present disclosure relates to a method and device for detecting smoking gestures. A wrist-worn device includes a gyroscope and an accelerometer which provides signals representing movement of a wearer's arm. A processor within the device receives signals from the gyroscope and the accelerometer and determines whether the signals represent movement that corresponds to the act of smoking.
