Abstract

This paper presents the development and application of a module that addresses behavioural aspects of freight
agents in various degrees of detail for simulating freight transport demand in an agent-based way. The module is
fully integrated in the structure of the MATSim simulation with the ability to use all its functionalities. The module
is highly customizable and hence allows users to set up multiple simulation scenarios in a comparatively short time
in order to address questions related to urban freight transport. As an example of the application, this paper
demonstrates how to use the module to simulate the interactions of various stakeholders in urban freight transport,
using the real world problem on the interaction between freight forwarders and recipients on the delivery of parcels
by express delivery services.
