Abstract

Non rigid motion estimation is one of the main issues in several fields, ranging from medical image analysis to civil engineering.

From the point of view of image processing the challenge consists in processing the images from a video camera and in extracting the displacement field of the scene.

In this paper, a new iterative Block-Matching technique is proposed to measure displacements in elastic deformable surfaces. This technique is based on successive interpolation and smoothing phases to calculate the dense displacement field of a body.

The proposed technique was experimentally validated by studying the Yosemite sequence and it was tested in different real scenarios.
