Abstract
The experimental results obtained for radio communication are often presented in one of several different ways. They may be described in terms of the field strength E(r), voltage V(r) or power P(r) at the receiver, or in terms of the path loss L(p) between transmitter and receiver, for various combinations of system parameters such as antenna gains G(t) and g(r), antenna heights above mean terrain level ht and hr, transmitter power P(t), propagation distance d and frequency of operation f. To facilitate data comparisons at median signal level, a simple normalization procedure is presented in the form of a single propagation chart of Q against distance, where Q can absorb each of the parameters E(r), V(r), P(r) or L(p) as appropriate. This approximation is intended to apply to the mobile radio frequency allocations in the VHF and UHF bands and to four generalized categories of mobile radio environment
