Abstract
While the terrorism characterising the 'Troubles' in Northern Ireland in the latter half of the 20th century differed from the current UK jihadi variety in almost every particular, especially in terms of respective environments, grievances, ideologies and modes of mobilisation, this article explores the complex mix of continuity and discontinuity exhibited by counterterrorism in the two contexts.
