Abstract
The killing of poultry in houses during outbreaks of diseases such as highly pathogenic avian influenza has several advantages. Unlike other methods, killing in poultry houses eliminates the need for handling live birds and also minimises human contact with infected birds and contaminated materials, which is better for both the welfare of the birds and for biosecurity.
