Abstract

This paper develops an optimization method for the coupled problems of airport taxiway routing and runway scheduling. This work combines and extends previous research in the field. Runway scheduling, including downstream separation constraints, and taxi routing and timing decisions are combined into a single mixed integer linear programming (MILP) optimization. Examples illustrate that all these decisions are coupled, and numerical results suggest potential 20% improvement in throughput by optimizing simultaneously.
