Abstract

A large enhancement of the 1.54 μm emission of Er3+ ions in nanostructured a-Al2O3 films sensitized with amorphous Si nanoparticles (Si NPs) is reported. A fine tuning of the Er-Si NPs energy transfer can be achieved as a function of the Er-Si NPs separation and the nanoparticle size, therefore enabling the photoluminescence response optimization.
