N2 - The primary objective of this study, as specified by UKWIR, is to fully understand the environmental impacts of phosphorus (P) discharges from wastewater treatment works (WwTWs) relative to wider diffuse sources in the context of achieving the requirements of the Water Framework Directive (WFD). This was achieved by undertaking a combination of literature review, field and modelling work, using the Hampshire Avon as a case study catchment. The links between P and ecological status as well as possible future permitting options were considered.
