Abstract
The 2019 season of work at Nivica and surrounding areas focused on survey methods, including measured survey drawings, photography, photogrammetry, fieldwalking, use of UAV (drone), detailed below. Work develops on research conducted in 2018, which is detailed along with wider historical context in the previous report (Tierney et. al 2019). Over three seasons in 2018 and 2019, some 75 ha (c.750,000 m2) of land have
been surveyed.
Drawings of finds from antiquity, collected by community members, were drawn to archaeological publication standards (see: Artefact Illustration, p.23).
Additionally, a continued ambition of the project to ensure community co-production and meaningful communication was facilitated by additional community interviews lead by a postgraduate researcher, detailed below.
Furthermore, the team support extra-project ambitions to support eco-tourism drives. This included collaboration with the Peace Corps and a Yoga Group. In collaboration with the Peace Corps, the team presented an archaeological overview (pottery, metals, field survey reports, excavation reports, to members of the local community involved with eco-tourism developments. The Survey Manager presented a detailed
review, with digital aids, of GIS, landscape overviews and photogrammetry three-dimensional views of key features. Additionally, the team lead a tour of the Kalla. With the Yoga Group (Free Flow Yoga Tirana), the team undertook outdoor yoga practice which serves as an additional service provision for eco-tourism activities in the region.
To ensure public communications efforts continued, the team posted updates of project work through the Facebook page (NivicaBristol).
