Abstract
The article examines the national story woven by Putin and his propagandists in support of the invasion of Ukraine, the varieties of Russian nationalism propounded over two centuries that inform their justification of the invasion, and the predominance of the Great Russian Muscovite perspective that denies the right of Ukraine to nationhood and independent political existence.
