Abstract
A case note on the decision in Re W [2016] EWCA Civ 793 highlighting the errors in the original case management; and the distortion of welfare thinking and assessment produced by the decisions in Re B [2013] UKSC 33 and Re B-S [2013] EWCA Civ 1146 with the consequences that the original decision disregarded the relationship the child had with the prospective adopters and ordered special guardianship in favour of grandparents who had never met the 18 month old child. This decision was overturned by the Court of Appeal restoring the emphasis on status quo in welfare decision making.
