This entry provides an introduction to the field of school bullying and aims to show just how far understanding of the problem has progressed since the late 1970s. It begins by defining the phenomenon before considering measurement issues and the incidence and nature of school bullying. Attention then turns to questions about the effects of school bullying and the characteristics of the children who are directly involved. The entry concludes with a consideration of other factors that influence school bullying, such as the role of the wider peer group and school-level factors.
