Abstract
Described here are the individual responses of two dams in Scotland, U.K., to earthquake ground motions appropriate to the rest of the U.K. Finite element models are used. Results indicate that well constructed dams have sufficient inherent strength to withstand seismicity of the levels usually occurring in the U.K., even without special provision for earthquake loading in their design.
