Abstract
This article examines the relative value and use of terms such as youth, maturity, and age in the wake of the Spanish revolution through to the 1840s. It argues that the unstable and mutable use of these terms means that implicitly, within bodily, historical experience, there is a capacity to exceed and alter the limits of chronological time. This notion is fundamental to post-revolutionary liberalism. The imaginary world of such mutations was considered a basic sociological reality, as was the aesthetic in general.
