An account of the development and introduction of guidance on shared parenting for family justice professionals (Cafcass Officers) and others by FNF. A critique of the guidance based on the law and the research evidence. The guidance was selective and partial in its evidence based so as to provide a misleading account of of the potential benefits and disbenefits of shared residence for children. It focused on parent's rights not children's rights and welfare. Any future guidance should only be developed through an open and transparent proces; be properly evidenced; and imbued with a focus on children, their needs, wishes and feelings.
